Providing specific details on time and duration of occurrences is most helpful.

Traffic Control Signal Removal Field Study

The City of Omaha is currently upgrading all citywide traffic signals in a multi-phase, multi-year project. Each phase begins with a review to determine if signals meet Federal Highway Administration criteria. Signals that do not meet these criteria are temporarily turned off for approximately 60 days. During this evaluation period, the city collects data, reviews operations, and considers public input. After analyzing the gathered information, signals that continue to fall short of the criteria may be permanently removed.

Project Features

Improvements

  • Remove excessive wait times at the intersection
  • Remove disobedience of the signal indications (red light running)
  • Decrease use of inappropriate routes (vehicles avoiding signals)
  • Decrease the number of collisions
Please refer to the Traffic Signal Infrastructure Modernization and Adaptive Signal Control Technology page for more detailed information.
